Muhumurize means “comfort them” and this school, run by Theoneste Biseruka, does that for the 251 street children it serves in Kigali, Rwanda. Many of Muhumurize’s students were forced onto the streets after losing parents to AIDS or the 1994 genocide. By providing them with the equivalent of a six-year primary school education in only three years, this unique school performs an important service to its students by “catching them up” to their peers. All Across Africa and Opportunities Across Africa partner together to help Muhumurize Catch Up School fund the continual need for vulnerable youth to have access to education.
