My name is Margaret and I am 38 years old and live in Jinja, in southern Uganda. I am a single mother of 7 children. My husband died one year ago and now I care for our children alone. I was never able to complete my education and I don’t have a job. My only skill is to make beaded necklaces, and I am proud to say that I am very good at what I do. I moved to Jinja from Padar District in northern Uganda because my husband thought there would be more employment opportunities here. Since I stayed at home when we first moved here, I quickly learned how to make beaded necklaces and I joined a beading group. At the beginning we would sell our beads and necklaces to tourists at the local market, but now with this opportunity with All Across Africa, the future looks brighter. The money that I get from selling my beads to All Across Africa is my only source of income to pay my rent, food, and clothes for the children. I pray that I can continue to make good quality necklaces for the people in America to buy, and am thankful for their impact on my life!
