My name is Joyce and I am 37 years old. I am married and have 7 children. I am from Gulu district in northern Uganda, a region heavily affected by the civil war with the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). During the war, my husband was abducted by the LRA and for some years was hiding and working in the bush with them. Miraculously, he managed to escape from the LRA and come home. We decided it was best to run away because the rebels would be looking for him to kill him for leaving. We decided to move to Jinja in southern Uganda for safety. Now for income my husband drives a motorcycle taxi, called a boda boda. He has posttraumatic stress, which sometimes affects his work; so I help him take care of our family by making necklaces. I am hoping that with this new business opportunity with All Across Africa, my children’s future will be brighter. I will be able to pay for their school fees, and buy food and clothes for them.
