Basket Weaver

My name is Claire, I am 17 years old and I live in Muhanga district in central Rwanda. I am an orphan and also the head of my household as I care for my two younger sisters. I am also a student in the third year of secondary school. My mother taught me to weave baskets when I was very young. I continued to develop and practice this craft after she passed away because I needed to provide for my younger sisters. Weaving and selling my baskets has helped me to not only provide food and school materials, but to pay the school fees for my sisters and myself. My hope is that I can continue to satisfy the needs of my sisters until they are able to provide for themselves. My dream is to one day have enough means to help other vulnerable people, especially orphans.
