Bead Maker
4 children

My name is Agnes and I am 37 years old. I am married and with 4 children and also care for two orphaned children. I am from Gulu district in northern Uganda, but I moved to Jinja in 1995 when the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), headed by Joseph Kony, burned down my village. Everything we had was lost, and my family became displaced. In Northern Uganda, the LRA was abducting children to turn them into child soldiers, who would then terrorize villages and burn down homes. We decided to move to Jinja because we believed it would be a safer place for our children. I started making beads about 10 years ago. When I first began, I would only make beads to sell in the local markets and other craft shops in town. Most of the craft shops would buy our beads at a very low price, and we felt cheated. I decided to join a beading group so that together, we could market our necklaces in America The money I get from this business has been so helpful in paying my rent, buying food for my family, and helping with paying school fees for my children. I know this new opportunity with All Across Africa will help me even further with my bills and I know the future will continue to get brighter
